Fire protection in St. Edward is provided by a 35-member volunteer fire department with 12 members certified as EMTs. The department also provides protection for areas outside the city limits. A new building combining the fire hall, city offices, and police department was built in 2006-07 at a cost of approximately $800,000. The building was funded in part by a Community Development Block Grant along with city funds and donations.

Law Enforcement

The City of St. Edward employs one police officer. Equipment in the police department includes one patrol car and standard equipment.
